Discounted Timber

Radial Timber sells two grades of timber
Standard & Better Grade and Discounted B1 Grade.
Discounted B1 or as it commonly referred to as Seconds Grade is a small proportion of timber that does not make the Standard & Better grading criteria due to factors like machining faults or heavy natural features in the timber. This grade is perfect for those who love timber with a more featured/rustic look, those applying a dark stain/oil or intending the timber to grey off over time as these features will blend in and become almosunnoticeable.

Types Of Features

Discounted Grade will contain anything that does not meet a standard and better grade in the milling process. The following features are present in this grade, most lengths will have one or multiple
features on a section of the board but will still bstructurally sound.

Gum Vein

Fire Streak

Gum Pockets

Insect Damage

Chattering

Tear Out

Checking

Knots

Insect Damage

Moulding Miss

Gum Streak

Ambrosia

Insect Feature

Colour Flecks

Machine Damage

Handy Tip If you are planning on staining/painting your timber in a dark stain or a black/white paint, then discounted timber would be the perfect option as most of the faults will be barely visable after being coated. Timber with a sawn face is also another very effective way of masking the look of the faults.
