Timber Finishes
Timber oiling is a very important step to ensure the longevity of your timber in the harsh Australian climate. At a minimum, a clear oil based sealer (such as Radial Timber Sealer) should be applied to protect the timber from excess moisture loss or water ingress. Radial Timber can provide a pre-oiling service so your timber is ready for install on site immediately.
Oil-Based Timber Finish
Radial Timber offers a range of oil based timber finishes. These oils are designed for dressed or rough sawn timber to help protect the timber from our harsh Australian climate.
Radial Timber Sealer
Radial Timber Sealer is clear oil that helps to repel and control moisture which will minimise checking and splitting while also helping the timber to acclimatise to its new surroundings. It will go on clear and allow the timber to grey off naturally generally 6-12 months (depending on exposure). It can be applied to all hardwoods for external use.
Aussie Light
Aussie Light is tinted (pigment) oil that helps to repel and control moisture which will minimise checking and splitting while also helping the timber to acclimatise to its new surroundings. The colour of the oil will maintain up to 12-18 months (depending on exposure) and will need to be reapplied to keep the colour in the timber. It can be applied to all hardwoods for external use.
Aussie Walnut
Aussie Walnut is tinted (pigment) oil that helps to repel and control moisture which will minimise checking and splitting while also helping the timber to acclimatise to its new surroundings. The colour of the oil will maintain up to 12-18 months (depending on exposure) and will need to be reapplied to keep the colour in the timber. It can be applied to all hardwoods for external use.
Water-Based Timber Finish
Radial Timber’s water-based timber finishes offer unique colour options. This range is generally designed for rough sawn or sawn faced timber products as the loose fibres help absorb the stain and helps create a longer lasting coat.
Rustic Grey
Rustic Grey is tinted (pigment) stain. With its recycled look, the intention is to give your timber a much more consistent weathering pattern. The colour of the stain will maintain up to 18-24 months (depending on exposure) you can then either re-coat to keep that colour or let the timber naturally weather off underneath in exposed areas. It is suitable for rough or fine sawn timbers as the water based make up absorbs to the fibres creating a long lasting coat.
Charcoal Black
Charcoal Black is a dark tinted (pigment) stain intended to look like charred timber without the price tag. The colour of the stain will maintain up to 18-24 months (depending on exposure) Recoating will be required to keep the charred black look. It is suitable for rough or fine sawn timbers as the water based make up absorbs to the fibres creating a long lasting effect. When using Black on timber cladding some extra movement should be expected due to the colour absorbing more sunlight.
Machine Timber Finish
Radial Timber can offer a range of different machine finishes to our line of products to achieve different textures. From dressed for a modern sleek look to a more natural sawn face finish there is a style to suit every application or design.
Dressed (Raw)
This smooth finish is a popular choice for a contemporary appearance. Dressed timber is kiln dried then machined to clean up the rawness and deliver a nice clean face for a range of products. Dressed products take oils really well and are great for keeping the timber looking as is, or letting it weather naturally.
Sawn Face
This coarse finish is perfect for a more rustic feel. Sawn face timber can come unseasoned or kiln dried and machined into different products to suit your style. Sawn face timber is a great option for colour tones as the fibres absorb the stain well giving you a long lasting coating.
Grooved
This dressed finish with routed groove lines is designed to look like a continuous batten system, it creates that sleek batten look without all the extra work. The grooved profile is currently only available in our 110x19mm tongue and groove shiplap cladding.
