Who are we?

Radial Timber is an Australian based company that grows, mills and distributes a range of unique and standard products from durable Victorian hardwood timber. It is the only commercial radial sawing mill in the world, using Australian patented technologies to produce more timber from fewer trees. This sustainable process has been proven to produce more stable and uniform timber in longer lengths. Radial Timber specialises in timber decking, timber screen boards, external cladding and natural edge weatherboards. We’re located in Dandenong, Victoria. Do not hesitate to contact us for any enquiries.

Our Campaign

Historically, most of Australia’s hardwood timber has come from old growth forests and more recently large quantities have begun to be imported from rainforest areas in developing countries. Committed to a sustainable harvesting of the world’s hardwood resources, we believe that old growth and rainforest timber should be preserved for future generations, and that the timber industry should look to suitable farmland to establish local plantations. This is what our social campaign, Touchwood, aims to bring awareness to. For every Facebook like we receive we will plant 1 tree and are committed to plant up to 2 million trees.

A Cut Above: Australian ingenuity turns the age-old tradition of sawmilling on its head

Australian ingenuity is turning the age-old tradition of sawmilling on its head. Radial sawing, which cuts round logs into wedges, means smaller trees can be turned into useful timber. The technology has massive implications for native forests – it means useable timber can be grown in plantations in half the time.

Victorian radial sawmill taking concept to commercial reality with timber technology

The deafening din is the same as any sawmill, but the timber rolling off the conveyor belt is far from conventional.

It has been radially sawn, a milling technique that delivers some enormous advantages over existing methods.

In this episode of ArchiTel we are showcasing a beautiful project by Six Degrees Architects, the STREAT cafe and training facility in Cromwell Street, Collingwood Victoria. We talk to architect Simon O’Brien.

STREAT is an organisation setup to support and help homeless and disadvantaged youth across Melbourne and Australia by giving them the help they need to gain skills and experience in the hospitality industry. STREAT was started in 2009 by Rebecca Scott & Kate Barrelle.

Timber pretreatmentProtect Your Timber The Right Way!

Radial Timber can now pretreat your timber using our ‘Radial Timber Sealer’ product. Radial Timber Sealer is required to repel and control moisture, hence minimises splitting, cracking and checking that can occur. It still allows the timber to grey off naturally while leaving it to look and feel like timber. It can be applied to many hardwoods used for external cladding, window frames, fences, trellis, decking and pergolas.
